The URBI faculty funding:

CRITERIA for the award of funding:

Support is available for new project applications meeting the following criteria:

  • Funding channels for the acquisition of competitive third-party funding: all recognised national and international funding channels, in particular EU projects and educational programmes within the framework of ERASMUS+Main
  • Function: Main applicant or coordinator / applicant as project partner
  • Third-party funds applied for (University of Graz share) and possible maximum funding amount – see table:

Third-party funding share of the University of Graz

Funding amount for applicant as project partner

Funding amount for main applicant or coordinator

Minimum € 30,000 to € 200,000

max. € 1,500

max. € 3,000

over € 200,000

max. € 3,000

max. € 6,000

over € 500,000

max. € 5,000

max. € 10,000

In addition to the table: ERASMUS+ from a requested third-party funding share of € 100,000 for the university is funded with a maximum of € 3,000. Project leadership is a precondition here.

Note: Subcontracting is excluded from funding. Resubmissions of rejected applications that have already been funded by the faculty can be supported up to a maximum of half the funding amount.

Utilisation of the funds:

  • The faculty's funding can be used for travel purposes, work contracts or personnel measures (e.g. increase in the scope of employment, no bonus payments).
  • The funding measures must be implemented by the applicant within 6 months of approval by the faculty (if later) or by the time the project application is submitted.
  • If funding for the project initiation is approved by the Vice Dean, the support will be paid out by the Dean's Office as soon as the use of the funding has been concretised (e.g. service contract).
  • For the evaluation of the funding initiative, the funded applicants are obliged to inform the Dean's Office of their approval/rejection of the project application after the decision has been made.

Application:

  • To ensure that the funds are used for the intended purpose, the application for funding must be submitted (at the latest) 1 month before to submission.
  • As part of the application, it must be disclosed whether funding is already being received from another organisation or whether an application has already been submitted.
  • For the application for funding, an informal outline of the proposal (1-3 pages) or the rough draft of the application including a detailed schedule and stating all project-relevant information (project idea, funding body, project partners, funding amount [Uni Graz!] in relation to the relevant call text and the planned use of the funding), should be submitted to the Dean's Office (Ms. Sabina Grobbauer).
  • In addition, 15 days before submitting the project application, at the latest, all main applicants or coordinators of EU projects must demonstrate that they have made use of relevant advice from the OEAD or FFG or an equivalent institution (all other projects are exempt from this requirement).
  • Applicants who are not habilitated must enclose a brief, informal letter of support from a member of the department confirming that the proposed project is fundamentally worthy of funding.

or

  • personnel support (valued at € 4,500/year)

or

  • a financial incentive in the form of a bonus payment (the value of the personnel support or the bonus payment is set to be 100% equivalent to the value of 2 semester hours of teaching).

The faculty covers the costs of proofreading for English-language publications (published in indexed journals) and English-language research proposals (especially EU research project proposals)
